Dr. Ayse Aytaman, Chief of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Brooklyn, will be named  2018 Physician of the Year at the NYC American Liver Foundation Gala in October.  She is the first female physician and first VA physician  to receive that honor.  “This is a tremendous accomplishment by Dr. Aytaman and honor for her,” said Dr. Patrick Malloy, Executive Chief of Staff. “This acknowledgement provides an opportunity for Dr. Aytaman to  highlight her priorities including addressing the Hepatitis C epidemic by promoting screening and treatment to prevent the long-term consequences of liver cancer and liver failure.”

Dr. Aytaman has worked at VANYHHS for more than two decades.  She considers her Veterans and her trainees as her biggest  inspiration in everything she does. She commented that this recognition by her peers is only possible because of VA’s support for her work. “This is more VA’s accomplishment then mine.”
