Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy

Occupational therapy (OT) is a treatment program that focuses on feeding, dressing, bathing, grooming, wheelchair mobility, safety in the bathroom, home management, thinking skills, coordination, flexibility, strength and endurance. Specific activities are used to improve, restore or compensate for loss of function in these areas. Rather than referring to a person’s employment – "occupation" means being occupied in meaningful day to day activities such as self care, work and leisure.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy (PT) is a treatment program that focuses on posture, walking, stair climbing, getting in/out of bed or a chair, strength, flexibility, endurance, balance and coordination.

Your occupational therapist and physical therapist will complete an evaluation and create a treatment plan with you that meets your rehab needs and goals. You may be scheduled for 1-2 occupational therapy sessions each day and 1-2 physical therapy sessions each day. You are expected to attend your therapy appointments as scheduled unless excused by the rehab physician.
