National Salute to Veteran Patients Week provides additional activities to honor Veterans.

Sunday, January 18, 2015

Medical Centers in Upstate New York are celebrating National Salute to Veteran Patients February 8th - 14th, 2015. This week is to honor Veterans and encourage others to volunteer. Voluntary Service is hosting events and activities for inpatients and outpatients including Valentine’s Day parties, hosting a choir concert, creative arts display and a local basketball and hockey game.

It is not too late for individuals or groups to join other volunteers to show appreciation and honor Veterans. There are many volunteer opportunities available including: patient escorting, making reminder appointment phone calls, helping Veterans with computer skills, acting as a friendly greeter, providing relief for caregivers, giving friendship or just lending an ear to listen. To learn more visit http://www.bath.va.gov/giving/index.asp

Being a volunteer has many benefits including making new friends, boosting happiness, flexible hours, coffee and cookie socials, a free meal for 4 or more hours of volunteering, enhancing your resume, exploring careers in health care and free flu vaccine and TB testing.

On behalf of Veterans we would like to thank all of the individuals, Veterans’ groups, military personnel, civic organization, businesses, schools, local media, celebrities and sport stars who volunteer their time to work with Veterans.
