Human Subject Research Training
PRIDE recommends Collaborative IRB Training Initiatives (CITI) * to satisfy the annual requirement for training in both Good Clinical Practice and ethical principles of human research protection. Additionally, ORD accepts the completion of the CITI group called VA Only. See instructions for registering (25 KB, MS Word). If you have any questions about registering, please send an email to michael.fallon@va.gov.
Biosafety Training
The VA Office of Research and Development (ORD) has developed its Biosafety & Biosecurity Program to ensure the safety of individuals involved with research at Veterans Health Administration research laboratories and to protect the environment. The program strives to ensure the security and safety of all individuals, resources, information, biological agents, chemical agents and radiation materials/sources found within research laboratories. ORD's biosafety and biosecurity program functions in coordination with similar programs at individual medical centers. Activities at VA Central Office ORD involve developing VHA policy, issuing guidance, communicating training requirements and initiating training programs as well as working closely and coordinating with other Federal entities regarding biosafety, biosecurity and homeland defense. The annual mandatory training is now available on the CITI website.

Animal Research Training
The CITI Lab Animal Welfare Course
The CITI Laboratory Animal Welfare Course is now available. The course is an updated version of the course established by the VA at www.citiprogram.org/default.asp *. The course meets the federal (USDA, OLAW) requirements for basic training in the humane care and use of animals in research and teaching. The species specific training is also available on the CITI website.
The CITI Lab Animal Welfare Working Group
The CITI Lab Animal Welfare Working Group provides direction and oversight for the The CITI Lab Animal Welfare Course. The Group, consisting of veterinarians, IACUC members, IACUC chairs and IACUC coordinators, ethicists and lab animal users, meet semiannually to review the Program and develop new materials.

Information Security Training
This training is located on LMS. For those of you with VA computer access and LMS access (employees), please log on to LMS and do a search for "Information Security 201 for Research & Development." The training has two parts – review of lessons (spend at least five seconds on each page, or it will not count), and then a test. This training is required to be completed ONLY ONCE.
https://www.lms.va.gov/plateau/user/login.jsp
The Information Security 201 for Research is also available on the EES/Librix external server. All of the WOCs can now self-enroll and complete the requirement at: https://www.ees-learning.net/librix/loginhtml.asp?v=librix
Annual Mandatory Ethics Training
If you are a VA employee, you can access the training from a VA computer on the LMS website via the link below:
https://www.lms.va.gov/plateau/user/login.jsp
Search for the course "Ethics Most Wanted," and add it to your learning plan. Please provide a copy if your completion certificate once you have viewed the course.
If you are a WOC, you must complete the training called "VHA Mandatory Training for Trainees V2" in which is embedded "Ethics Most Wanted" training, along with a list of other new-employee-type training.
This training can be accessed by WOCs through this link: https://www.ees-learning.net/librix/loginhtml.asp?v=librix. Please do the training at a computer which is hooked to a printer so you can print the page which states that you have completed the training. If we do not receive evidence of completion, then you will have to repeat the training.
Ask Research Day
The Research Office, in collaboration with the Research Compliance Officer, host “Ask Research Day” once a month. This event is held the second Thursday of every month, 11:30AM – 12:30PM in the 603C Conference Room. The first half of the meeting is dedicated to a specific education topic, usually accompanied by a slide show presentation. You can access these presentations by accessing the following link: Ask Research Day
The second half of the meeting is dedicated to research program updates and announcements from the ACOS/R&D. This part if the meeting is also reserved for questions and feedback from the investigators and staff. All staff at the Stratton VAMC and our affiliates are welcome to attend. We hope to see you there!
General Information
Please remember that all training is tracked by the research office on annual basis to be completed within 12 months from when you last completed the course. Please email or fax your completion certificates to the Research office:
